The Folsom Police Department would like to warn local businesses of a scam generated out of Southern California.
A fictitious business titled UST, Inc, also known as UST Development, is phishing by sending bogus ‘invoices’ as solicitation to local businesses, including the City of Folsom Fire Department and Police Department.
The invoice states it is “not an invoice for services rendered but for preventative maintenance on your telephone system”. The invoice states there is a total of $350 due.
Through internet research, it appears that UST, Inc. has sent out numerous ‘invoices’ all over the state. Other information implies that UST, Inc. is currently in court in Southern California for bankruptcy, fraud, and a host of other issues.
The Folsom Police Department wants to remind all its businesses and residents to carefully review and investigate if necessary, any invoices or other bills they receive before sending payment. Always scrutinize any mailings, emails or phone calls requesting you send any money. If you just aren’t sure, call the Folsom Police Department at 916-355-7231 for questions or information.
