The XBox 360 has several common errors that avid gamers come across. There’s the dreaded “Red Ring of Death” or “rrod”, the E74 error, scratched discs and the “open tray” error. Check out this list of ERROR CODES for more information and this list of TIPS to avoid some of these problems.
FYI BitWise no longer repairs gaming consoles, including the Xbox 360.
Many XBox 360’s suffer from the “Red Ring of Death”. This is most commonly caused by overheating. The XBox 360 had a poor heatsink design that allows the console’s CPU and GPU’s to overheat shutting the system off and eventually completely freezing.
XBox 360 repair services typivally consists of dismantling and physically cleaning the unit. We blow all the dust out of the system, remove the motherboard and use new hardware to reinforce the heatsinks to the CPU and GPU.
An E74 error is indicated when the lower-right quadrant of the ring indicator flashes red and displays an error message in multiple languages: “E74 System Error. Contact Xbox Customer Support”. The error is caused when there’s a video problem, because the Xbox 360’s hardware scaler chip is damaged.
When an Xbox 360 cannot read a CD/DVD or game disc, it may not recognize that it has a disc in its drive. Instead of “Play Game” or “Play DVD”, an “Open Tray” option appears. The issue is linked to a dirty laser in the DVD drive, a magnetic problem that prevents the drive from spinning, or insufficient lubrication of the drive motor.
